I interned at a robotics lab in Japan during the summer of 2011. This model is a fun reminder of my experience.
The design for this model is straightforward since it just requires a lot of box-pleating, and it's easy to tweak the design to make new variants of this robot. Before settling on this combination, I played around with many different head/body/arm/leg proportions. The precreasing and collapsing steps are the most difficult. The starting grid is divided into 64ths diagonally.
